At about 8 in the morning, leave Fes and go toward Merzouga. The first stop will be Ifrane, a small Switzerland in Morocco. Following your coffee, you may see the Barbary apes in Azrou's cedar grove. We then go over the Middle Atlas Mountains to Midelt, often referred to as Morocco's capital apple, where you may eat lunch.
We continue over the Tizi-n-Talghemt pass, commonly known as the she-camel pass, and into the Ziz Valley, an oasis dotted with small traditional settlements and palm trees. The route will include many stops.
Arrive in Merzouga late in the day. Your camels will guide you across the Erg Chebbi Dunes to your desert tent. See an orange sunset from atop a dune. After a lovely supper, the camp staff will start the fire, so you can relax around it and listen to Berber music while stargazing.
We strongly recommend getting up early today to witness a beautiful and magnificent dawn. Following a filling breakfast at your tent, we go to Rissani, the birthplace of the present ruling dynasty. If today is a market day—that is, Tuesday, Thursday, or Sunday—you may explore a typical Moroccan market here. Then, go back to Fez via Erfoud and cross the Ziz Valley once more. Dropping you off at your Fes hotel will mark the end of your two-day desert adventure.
